You’ve probably seen photos of Heidelberg, Germany popping up on your instagram feed over the past few months. This once hidden gem is having its turn in the spotlight. One of Europe’s oldest cities, it’s full of history and intrigue. It’s home to one of the oldest universities, dating back to 1386 and the Castle, from the 13th century.
If you have a chance to visit, make sure to stroll down the Hauptstrasse (or Main Street). It’s a mile-long pedestrian-only street, running through the old town. Cross the old stone bridge and visit Heidelberg Castle and the University. Until then, enjoy my photo journal of this charming city.

STROLLING THE STREETS
This charming city is the perfect spot to spend a day (or week) wandering through the candy-colored streets and walking along the river. It’s about three and a half hours from Munich, by train or car, making it an easy destination for a quick getaway. I wish we had had more time to explore the town, but now I have an excuse to go back! I bet it’s just stunning in the summer months!
Have you visited Heidelberg? What are your “must-sees” in this charming city?
